Shanghai World Expo

2009

The brief was to create a visual identity for the upcoming Shanghai World Expo in 2010. In my research I discoverd that Shanghai (and lots of other world cities too) subsides a few milimetres each year. In some cities such as mexico city it can run up to a meter a year. This subsidence is mostly caused by human interference and is a global problem. The data I found I converted to 3d letters (of the city it adresses) which can also be read as 3-dimensional infographics. In the concept these 3d blocks of letters are 2 meters high and are shown at expositions in those cities that deal with the subsidence problems. This way the expositions are small previews of the actual worldexpo in Shanghai. Small booklets are part of the expositions and explain more on the infographic per letter. Together with posters and motion graphics they are part of the campaign to get people to the worldexpo in Shanghai where more is explained about actual solutions to subsidence.
